Segue abaixo.

A few things every student should know
This Email deals with a comment made by a teacher regarding the low motivation of his students in wanting to learn English. I think much of this reluctance to learn another language has to do with the student's general frustration levels. Afterall, the majority of us will always like to do what comes naturally or easiest to us. Learning a language takes work.
Many times our students will be totally frustrated because they don't feel they are making any progress with the language. This dissolution leads them to think they have no ability and because they feel they don't have any ability, they don't want to try. As teachers, one of our main jobs is to give our students the confidence and inspiration to keep trying.
Sometimes the inspiration to learn a language can come from something as simple as understanding a song or being able to follow a tv series --- but this is difficult!I am sending you a few website pages about sound scripting and linking. These two concepts are of key importance to speaking and listening skills and I have always given them 200% focus in the classes I have taught. I know many of you are more focused on instrumental approaches and have limited class time to approach these types of topics but it is always nice to give your students a little communicative approach now and again isn't it??
Anyways, sound scripting really deals with how to stress words in a sentence. When a student learns this ability people will understand them sooooooooooo much better. Also, it takes away that monotone "robot" sound out of their speech (that drives me crazy).http://esl.about.com/od/speakingadvanced/a/sscripting.htm
Linking will answer your student's question - "Why can't I understand anything anyone is saying when I listen to music or when I watch English tv or movies??" With the linking concept, you will be able to answer this question.
Linking completely changes the sound from what is written on a page to what is spoken out loud. This will atleast help with tv and movies... but music... I can't even understand half of the time (I am getting too old).http://www.englishclub.com/pronunciation/linking.htm
You don't necessarily have to teach these concepts but I do recommend atleast having a discussion with your students about them (for students starting at about 11 or 12 years old), when a discussion of this type can really be understood. I like my students to understand the processes and possible difficulties behind the learning. It allows them to know that learning a language can be hard but not impossible. These concepts can be used particularly well in reader activities.
